I recently had a 50 amp circuit installed specifically for my Honda Prologue portable charger. However, I'm running into an issue. Once I plug the charger into the 14-50 outlet, the charger's light turns solid blue, but as soon as I connect it to my car, it consistently trips the breaker.

It's strange because the charger works fine on a standard 110V outlet. Could there be too much power at the 50 amp outlet? Has anyone else encountered this problem with a portable charger?

Yeah, that's definitely strange. A 32A charger shouldn't trip a 50A breaker. It sounds like there might be an issue with the charger itself, or perhaps a problem with the electrical wiring in your garage. Have you tried plugging the charger into a different outlet? It might be worth checking the breaker panel to see if there's any unusual activity.

Just a thought, depending on the manufacture, the tolerances (spacing between the contacts and wire connections) can be very small. A 50 amp NEMA 14-50 installation should require 6 gauge wire which is large and quite rigid. Because of the design of the NEMA 14-50 receptacle there is physical movement of contacts when a plug is inserted. Popping the breaker requires a short! Any possibility that a short is occurring when the plug is inserted in the receptacle? (PLEASE DONOT OPEN THE RECEPTACLE UNLESS YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH AND COMFORTABLE HANDLING HIGH VOLTAGE CIRCUITS!!). If not, there is an issue with the charger.
