An error message of "key missing, check for key'' has been popping up lately. What's strange is that everything seems normal, but then it randomly shows up, sometimes even just while parked for a moment. It’s weird right, because the car stays on without any issues, but seeing the alert come up so often is frustrating. Has anyone else dealt with this, or found a way to stop it from appearing?

I can relate to that! It seems like the system is working as intended, likely detecting that the key is out of range. If your wife had another key or if it was nearby, that might explain the message appearing intermittently. To minimize the chances of it popping up, a good practice would be to leave the key inside the car when you step out, especially if you are not getting out as well. This should help prevent any confusion with the key detection system.

Ugh, I had this super annoying thing happen the other day. I ran into the store real quick to grab some coffee, left the car running bcoz my daughter was inside, no biggie, right? But then I get back, and this dumb message pops up. Like, seriously? The key’s just sitting there on the console, not even in my pocket or anything. And the spare? Oh, that ones chilling at home, hanging on a hook where it always is. So what’s up with that? So weird!

I havent gotten it fixed, been quite busy. I’ll try leaving the key inside when I step out. Lets see if that helps with the error.

It sounds like the system’s being too sensitive or possibly detecting interference. Maybe try resetting the key fob or checking for any software updates to fix the glitch.

It could be a dying key fob battery or something interfering with the signal, but if the car stays on and runs fine, it might be a software glitch. I’d replace the battery first just to rule it out.

Have you checked the key fob battery? Even if the car still recognizes the fob a weak battery can cause intermittent connection issues triggering the "Key Missing" message. Try keeping the fob in different positions, some cars have weak antenna spots that make it lose signal randomly. If it keeps happening, a dealer visit might be needed to reset or reprogram the fob.
