So I'm thinking about getting a Honda Prologue and I've got some questions about home chargers. Has anyone here used the Level 2 home charger that comes with Package 1? Is it free or do you have to shell out some cash for it? Also, has anyone tried out the Honda charger, or do you have a different one you'd recommend? I'm debating whether to get the charger installed before my Prologue arrives, but it looks like that might be a no-go with Package 1. Any advice?

I just got a wall box pulsar plus from Costco recently. It was only $399. I used the $750 EvGO credit. It took me a few minutes to install it because I already had the required outlet in my garage. It was only a plug-and-play game.

if you opt for Package 1, the Lvl 2 home charger is typically included at no extra cost. Just confirm this with your dealer.

I would wait until I have the charger in hand.

If you are looking for alternatives, the wall box pulsar plus is a solid option, and many have found it easy to install (me included). Just be sure to check for any available rebates or credits to help offset the costs.

I love my L2 Charger. The only issue I'm having is connecting it to the monitoring app, which is a separate app from HondaLink.
Have you found any workaround, or is it just a matter of waiting for updates? Because some people mentioned issues with connecting to the monitoring app as well.

Yeah, Package 1 gets you the Level 2 charger, but the install’s extra. If you’re planning to charge at home regularly, it’s worth setting up a 240V outlet before your Prologue arrives. I use a ChargePoint at home, and it’s been great, super easy to manage charging schedules for daily use.

To prepare for your Honda Prologue, contact your dealer to confirm the specifics of the Level 2 charger included in Package 1 and their recommended installation process. Also, start getting electrician quotes for installing a 240V outlet for EV charging, even before you receive the charger. While you wait, research alternative Level 2 chargers in case you find a better option than the Honda-branded one, though purchasing separately might be less economical. Saves you the headache.

I haven't tried the Honda charger. I have installed an Emporia Level 2 charger. I recommend it. I recommend hardwiring it (not plugging in to a NEMA outlet), because it will charge a little faster. If you have some doubt about the total capacity of electrical service to your home, either now or in the future, I recommend the Emporia PowerSmart Load Management option.

Ah, gotcha! The Emporia Level 2 charger sounds solid. Hardwiring for a bit more juice, makes sense! And that load management thing? That's smart, especially if you're thinking ahead. Appreciate the tips!

A 48amp home charger is the best way to go. It does require a 60amp breaker, 6awg wiring, a suggested 60amp disconnect box and direct wired. This way you can charge at a maximum 48amps for the fastest charge. There's quite a bit of a time difference between the portable charger that charges at 32 amps and the home 48amp charger. However, some homeowners or renters don't have the luxury of enough amperage in their electrical system, due to smaller services.
And as a safety note, no matter what someone tries to tell you, never use a dryer plug to charge your vehicle at level 2. Both chargers draw too much for that size wiring and breaker. Always consult an electrician.
