Hello,

What’s the deal with the third button on the OnStar system? I know the red button is for emergencies and the blue one is for general assistance, but what about that leftmost button? Has anyone figured out its purpose?

I stumbled upon a statement from Honda saying it was actually cheaper to add the button just in case they ever figured out a use for it, rather than going through the hassle of developing new electronics and moldings down the road.

Is it only me laughing on this one? I find it funny.

Older OnStar cars used to have this extra button, but they had to shut it down when that old 2G network was decommissioned. There were three buttons total:

Red: This was for real emergencies, like if someone needs help, you're in a scary situation, or you see a wreck.
Blue: This one was for things like getting roadside help, figuring out directions, and stuff like that.
Black: This was for making calls without taking your hands off the wheel.
