So my girlfriend and I are gearing up for this epic winter trip out of the country, and I’m thinking of stashing my car in the garage for a couple months. Any tips on how to prep it for long-term storage? I want to make sure it’s in good condition when I take it out again. Don’t want to deal with any surprises!

Here are a few suggestions I saw in an article.
  • You car sitting dormant for a while can take a great toll on your tires. I saw some recommendations that you should put your car on jack stands to get its weight off tires.
  • You should charge the main battery to about 80% and make sure to leave it unplugged.
  • The 12v battery is the main cause of most issues, so you can either disconnect or remove it and use a trickle charger to keep it healthy. You have to make sure the charger has a control module that only charges when needed and not continuously.
I hope these tips helps, have a great trip!

To add to this, make sure to clean your car before you leave it for months.

Hey, I am a ride-share driver and I might have some tips for you:
- fill the tank to prevent moisture buildup;
- keep your tires properly inflated. If you can, put them on jack stands to avoid flat spots;
- a good wash and breathable cover will protect your car from dust and scratches.
I wish you a nice trip.

@Juan004, consider these, too. Make sure to disconnect the 12V battery or use a trickle charger so you can avoid any electrical issues when you return. Top off all fluids, including oil and coolant, to prevent damage, and don't engage the parking brake, as it can stick. Hope it helps.
