Is Honda Prologue EV data accurate or just guesswork?

I’ve been paying close attention to my Honda Prologue’s numbers, miles, SOC, efficiency, and comparing them to what I see from chargers and apps. Honestly, it feels like the car’s data has some quirks.

For instance, I’ve had efficiency numbers go up during a trip, even though my driving didn’t reflect that. I’ve also noticed that when I charge, the SOC increase doesn’t always match the kW reported on a receipt or my charger app. Like, I’ll see I charged 60 kW, but the SOC difference doesn’t line up with that number. Maybe it’s system losses or the chargers themselves?

I’ve decided to not stress too much about it. The miles I travel seem to align pretty well with the SOC I use, and I’m definitely spending less on “fuel” compared to my old ICE car. In the end, I’m just happy to enjoy the ride and avoid gas stations (unless I’m grabbing snacks). Anyone else notice stuff like this, or is it just me overthinking?

I’ve noticed some odd differences with my Prologue’s SOC and charger receipts too. My guess is system losses, maybe from heat or inefficiencies during charging? I stopped stressing about it when I realized I’m still saving a ton compared to my old gas car. If it gets you from A to B without hitting the pump, it’s already a win, right?

EVs can be quirky with data. It’s likely due to system losses or different sensors, but as long as the mileage feels right, enjoy the ride!

You do lose a percentage of your power to the system conversion, heating, or cooling of the battery and interior climate. The Prologue guess-o-meter seems to default to the EPA efficiency for mile range. A different Chevy would base it on the last 50 miles which gave a much more real-world expectations if the conditions are similar.

How long have you had this car? I'm guessing this is new and it seems like your car is still learning your driving habits. But software updates can also cause EV data to get skewed, which is becoming a normal expertation now. If it still persists after software update of after sometime driving it, better have it checked. It could be something else.
