In one of the largest studies of Winter EV Range, CAA (Canada’s AAA) just released some fascinating results. What I find most interesting is NOT how FAR these 13 EVs went, but what % of their normal Range was LOST due to sub-freezing temperatures.

How did your EV fare?

1. Chev Silverado & Polestar 2: -14% (tie)
3. Kia EV9: -20%
4. Honda Prologue: -24%
5. VW ID.4: -28%

Equinox EV lost 10% more but is on the exact same battery as the Prologue but is narrower and should have less wind drag and has a higher max range.

Good point! Their results should be closer, if not slightly better for the Equinox. Perhaps the larger wheels on the Honda helped in Winter conditions? Maybe the larger body of the Honda provides better thermal conditions? Or there may have been differences in the driver’s behaviour (regen on or off, etc). I’m not sure what the answer is, but it is a curious result, I agree.

Very disappointed on battery range in winter condition, unable to attach an excel file of my Prologue EX-L 2024 elapse time I have registered; my location is 85 miles SE of Montreal, I have sent a copy to Honda Canada describing my unhappiness in regard to the battery range. My driving is mostly city streets plus warm up the battery as suggested by Honda (lots of stop and go).
Range indicated avg 225 miles at 80% charge, avg odometer between 28 and 115 miles, at temperature between 16 to 06 degree F.

I'll keep my excel file updated to see the difference in spring and next summer.
