Hey guys!

Is there a way to turn off that cringy music that blasts when I’m driving or reversing my Honda Prologue under 25 mph? Like, it’s super embarrassing lol. Any hacks to ditch that feature?

Hey mate, I believe it is required by law and currently you can't change the sound.

That sound is indeed a legal requirement for low-speed electric vehicles like the Honda Prologue. It is designed to ensure pedestrians can hear you coming. Unfortunately, there is no official way to disable it without potentially voiding your warranty.

Sadly, that sound is there to keep everyone safe. I haven't heard of any hacks to turn it off. This is a unique conversation, anyway.

I mean, Teslas don’t have a sound like that. Only when reversing. So obviously, it’s not a regulation that’s required, it’s something the manufacturer decided to implement. They should give you the option of changing it, or at least disabling it except in reverse.

Edit: it even plays when you’re fully stopped as long as you’re not in park. It’s ridiculous.

I drove a road tour through a wildlife refuge at no more than 10mph for 8 miles, The car singing its warning sound was very annoying. There needs to be some kind of switch that resets on each new start, with a warning screen that makes us check that we are aware that we are killing the tone and its intended safety. Even a pause with an auto restart after 10 minutes would be helpful.

I do understand that if I hit someone without the tone playing I could be “charged with battery”!

Somewhere a guy posted how he wrapped it with duct tape to quiet it down. I believe it was behind the front bumper, right side? I wouldn't suggest it because it is law.

I for one hate that low speed noise. I have stuffed sound insolation material around the speaker in the front and that has reduced the sound level I would say by about 70% or so. I still don't like it. I cut off those straight plastic 'lines' so that I now have full access to the speaker. Made it much easier to install the sound material which has a sticky backing. When I get time, I'm taking my car into my local repair shop (not a Honda dealer) and have them disconnect the electrical plug on the speaker. I don't care what the law that says about having it. It's beyond stupid and I will be getting rid of it in the near future. The rear speaker I don't mind. The front one bothers me, a lot.

Ah, the "driving soundtrack" no one asked for.:ROFLMAO: I totally get the cringe factor. Sadly, there’s no official way to mute it (yet), but you could try blasting your own tunes to drown it out.😆

I have taken care of this very annoying problem. I disconnected the electrical wire plug going into the speaker. Silence is golden. No other effect on the car that I can detect anywhere. No warning messages, etc. Nothing. Just quietness.

I was charging at a public station recently and a couple drove in to charge their brand new Rivian truck. I asked him if his vehicle had this noise maker when driving at slower speeds. He said no he's never heard a sound coming out of his vehicle. So apparently not all EV's have this system...at this time. My guess is that Rivian doesn't have to comply until a future dead line date. I tried googling for that date but I saw different dates on different websites so I don't know which one to believe. In any event, date or no date, my Prologue will remain the way it is.

If I have to take my car into a Honda dealer for service, they may or may not check that front speaker. If they do and connect it back up so it works again, I will simply unplug it when I get back home.

The other thought in my head is this: apparently if you already own an EV (and I do, a Chevy Bolt), the law isn't going to require you to install such a system. So we will have a mixture of EV's driving around with and without this system. So my point is this: the NTHSA is concerned enough about the safety issue to force EV manufacturers to add this feature to new vehicles, but it's OK to let the millions of existing EV's to continue to drive around without it. Go figure.

Where is the plug, and do you need any special tools to unplug it?

Can you share with the group where the speaker/electrical speaker wire is located? Under the dash? If so, drivers side or passenger side?
