HI everyone!

I just got my Prologue Elite. The dealer suggested that I use either a home charger or a portable charger. When connected to a 240-volt outlet, the portable charger charges at 23.1 mph, whereas the home charger charges at 34.1 mph. We should be fine with either option. Is there anything else I need to know about these chargers?

Appreciate it in advance!

Got a 240V power supply in your garage? Awesome! Now, you’ll wanna check what size breaker you’ve got. For a portable 240V charger, you’ll want a 40A breaker, but if you’re going all-in with a permanent charger, bump it up to a 50A breaker for the best performance. Trust me, it’ll save you some hassle!

I use the Level 2 AC charging station at home and it delivers up to 7.6 kW, fully charging my Prologue's 85 kWh battery pack overnight.

On long trips, the Prologue’s DC fast charging capability is a game changer. It can handle up to 150 kW at compatible stations, giving me an estimated 65 miles of range in just 10 minutes. This means I can quickly get back on the road without lengthy charging stops.

@Mitzi00 thanks for asking! We just got our Prologue, and we’re wondering which option to go with. The electrician is scheduled to install the 240v outlet in the garage the day after Christmas. I think we’ll go with the portable charger. There’s a free (yes free!) charger about a mile from our house that's part of the local electric utility’s charge network. We’ll try to use that one when we can.

Do you have a 240-volt outlet in your garage/parking area?
  • If so, what's the breaker size? 40 amps or 50 amps?
  • My portable charger requires a 40-amp service, while the wall-mounted charger needs a 50-amp service.

Hi, I have just bought Elit model and use the portable home charger. It is very slow to charge, and it takes hours to charge. any suggestions why?

If you are using the 110 outlet, it will charge about 4 or 5 miles per hour. Ok if you don't drive much. If you use the 110, when you are charging, go to the charging screen and change your amps selection to the highest. It will be the difference between 2 milies per hour to 5. It is the only time you can change that. If you are using 220, you are going to be charging as fast as you can. Approximately 23 to 25 mile per hour. A hard wired charger will go a little bit faster depending which charger you get. If you charge away from home, try to find a charger that is at least 350 kw. You won't go that fast but should top out at about 150. If you go to a 150, you will top out at approximately 50. And as you are driving to a charger, make sure you precondition your battery. If you use Google maps for directions to go to the charger, it will ask you if you want to precondition. If you don;t use the maps, go into charging settings and tell it to precondition and it will tell you how long before it is ready. Hope this helps.

Is it necessary to buy an adapter to use public charging ? What brand is best ? TIA !
Fred - It is not necessary to buy an adapter for non-Tesla fast chargers, but many of us find that the Tesla charging network is much better in our areas (speed and availability). There are several good adapters available on Amazon (you can search the links for brands). Cost is $150 - $200.

Hi all,

I noticed great advice on charging the Honda Prologue Elite. I am set to get an electrician to come out and provide an estimated cost to install a home charger. Based on the previous input, I should request a 240-volt power and 50A breaker. Am I missing anything? In addition, when on the road, I should find a 150kw charger to charge the vehicle. Does this mean I am unable to use 350kw? Will I be paying more if I go to a 350kw vs 150kws?

This is my first EV, and I appreciate your support on these questions.

If you are installing a dedicated Level 2 charger (such as the Emporia model Honda provided me) and want to take full advantage of the 48 A maximum capacity, you'll need at least a 60 amp breaker (and appropriately sized wire). The Emporia unit does allow you to connect it to a smaller service, but charging time will be extended.
