So I just got a receiver hitch installed on my car to hook up my bike rack and e-bike. Pretty stoked about it! But, I totally forgot to check the towing package limits. Anyone know what the towing capacity is? I mean, I’ll probably just be using it for my bike, but it's always good to know the limits, right?

I am not quite sure the exact towing capacity, but you can check this information on your manual, it should have the maximum weight.

Towing’s capped at 1500 lbs, and you can’t go over 150 lbs for the tongue weight. Oh, and they’ve shifted the hands-free lift gate sensor way to the right, too! Just so you know!

Welcome to the forum, @dasviech! Installing a receiver hitch is a fantastic way to enhance your vehicle's versatility. Regarding towing capacity, it can vary quite a bit, so it is best to consult your vehicle's manual for the exact figure. Most vehicles cap towing at around 1,500 lbs, as @Night_Wing said, and it is crucial to stay within those limits for safety.

Most modern vehicles have a towing capacity ranging from 1000 to 5000 lbs, depending on the make and model. But go for the owner's manual for more precise details. Anyway, it is always wise to verify towing package limits, so good job on the initiative.

Adding a hitch for a bike rack is such a solid upgrade. The Prologue’s rated for about 1,500 lbs towing capacity, so you should be well within limits for the e-bike setup. If you’re thinking of towing anything heavier down the line, just make sure the hitch is rated for it too.

I am also going to add to the hitch receiver to use my back rack with the Prologue. I'm not clear though on whether the fascia need to be cut for this? The few pictures I have found on the internet of Prologues with a hitch receiver look like the silver piece on the bottom has a cutout for this, but mine is smooth. Am I missing something?

We had the hitch added by the dealer at the time of purchase, so I'm not familiar with exactly what was involved. It does look like they replaced the silver bumper cover with a different one (the one we now have with the hitch doesn't look like it was cut away).
I was surprised at how much it cost to have the dealer install trailer lights with the hitch (the basic hitch with no wiring was not particularly expensive). The dealer said it was supposedly an 8-hour wiring job??!! I have wired in trailer harnesses on several cars, but didn't want to risk screwing with the electrics on an EV, so we paid the premium and had the dealer do it.

I beleive that it does require cutting the panel - see attached link to a Drawtite hitch designated for the Prologue, scroll down a bit and you'll see a pdf for installation instructions. I did something similar for a Subaru Outback a few years ago, not that hard but a bit challenging for one person. If I add a hitch, I'll probably pay someone to do it. I'm getting too old to crawl under cars on my back....Drawtite Trailer hitch for Prologue
